Matter Integration
TOMMY zones can be integrated with any Matter-compatible smart home platform as motion sensor devices. This provides universal compatibility with major smart home ecosystems including Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, and more.
Prerequisites
- TOMMY instance running (Home Assistant App or Docker)
- Valid zone configuration (at least 2 devices on the same Wi-Fi band)
- Matter-compatible platform with Matter support enabled
- Network connectivity between TOMMY and your Matter controller
Certification Warning
You may encounter a certification warning stating "This device has not been certified" with a safety prompt. This is normal for software devices, and you can safely continue with the pairing process.
Setting Up Matter Integration
Enable Matter and Generate Pairing Codes
- Open your TOMMY dashboard
- Select the zone you want to integrate
- In the Motion Detector section, toggle the Matter Integration switch on. TOMMY will restart the zone's services to bring up the Matter device.
- Once enabled, click "Show QR" next to the switch to reveal the QR code and setup code for pairing
Toggling Matter
The Matter Integration switch enables or disables Matter for all zones. Turning it off will remove the Matter devices; turning it back on will generate fresh pairing codes that you can use to re-pair with your platform.
Platform-Specific Setup
Home Assistant
- Install and configure the Matter integration in Home Assistant. See the Home Assistant Matter Integration guide for detailed setup instructions
- Navigate to Settings → Devices & Services
- Click "Matter" in the "Configured" list
- Click "Add device"
- For first-time pairing: Select "No. It's new." and scan the QR code from the TOMMY dashboard
- For subsequent pairings: Select "Yes. It's already in use." and enter the setup code from the TOMMY dashboard
- Follow the Home Assistant pairing wizard to complete setup
Apple HomeKit
- Launch the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac
- Tap the "+" icon and select "Add Accessory"
- Use "Scan QR Code" or select "More Options" for manual code entry
- Scan the QR code or enter the setup code from the TOMMY dashboard if QR scanning fails
- Follow the Home app prompts to finish pairing
- Assign the sensor to a room
Google Home
- Launch the Google Home app
- Tap "+" and select "Set up device"
- Select "Works with Google" and then "Matter"
- Scan the QR code or enter the setup code from the TOMMY dashboard if QR scanning fails
- Follow Google Home prompts to finish pairing
- Assign the sensor to a room
Samsung SmartThings
- Launch the SmartThings app
- Tap "+" and select "Add device"
- Use "Scan QR code" option
- Scan the QR code or enter the setup code from the TOMMY dashboard if QR scanning fails
- Follow SmartThings prompts to finish pairing
- Assign the sensor to a room
Generic Matter Setup
For other Matter-compatible platforms:
- Launch your Matter-compatible application
- Find "Add Device" or "Add Accessory" option
- Choose Matter/Thread device type if prompted
- Scan the QR code or enter the setup code from the TOMMY dashboard if QR scanning fails
- Follow your platform's prompts to finish pairing
- Assign the sensor to a room
Pairing Code Information
QR Code:
- First-time pairing only (cannot be reused after successful pairing)
- Quick setup with camera-enabled devices
Setup Code (Manual Pairing Code):
- Can be used for initial pairing and subsequent re-pairings
- Manual entry when QR scanning isn't available
- Always available as fallback method
