Creating Zones
Group
A group shares one transmitter across several zones. Each zone then only needs one device of its own.
What is a group?
A group is a set of zones that sense through one shared transmitter. The transmitter sits on the border between those zones. Each zone covers the space between that transmitter and the devices assigned to the zone.
A group does not detect presence by itself. The zones inside it do. For a zone with its own devices and no shared transmitter, see Zone.
Group requirements
- One shared transmitter for the whole group
- At least one other device in each zone
- Star topology only. Mesh is not available for a group
- Same Wi-Fi band for every device in the group (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)
- Same access point when the devices are on a mesh network. See mesh networks
Drawback
Presence near the shared transmitter shows up as presence in every zone that shares it. Put the transmitter where people do not linger if those zones need to stay independent.
Creating a group
Create the group
- Open the TOMMY Zero dashboard.
- Go to Zones.
- Click Create (or the + next to Zones in the sidebar).
- Choose Group, enter a unique name, and confirm.
Assign the shared transmitter
- Open the group.
- Assign one device as the transmitter under Group settings. That device transmits for every zone in the group.
Add a zone for each area
- Create a zone inside the group and give it a unique name.
- Assign at least one device to that zone, besides the shared transmitter.
- Repeat for each area the group should cover.
