Boundary Mode
Boundary mode controls how TOMMY isolates motion detection within zone boundaries.
Why Motion Can Be Detected Outside Your Zone
Wi-Fi signals don't stop at the edge of your selected zone. They pass through walls, reflect off surfaces, and scatter in different directions. Because of this, movement in nearby rooms or areas can still interfere with the signal between your devices and show up as motion.
Note that omni-directional antennas (the default on many devices) pick up signals from all directions and can make this worse. To reduce it, use devices with external directional antennas aimed only at the area you want to monitor. Boundary modes are software approaches to remedy this issue.
Precise Mode
Precise mode keeps detection within zone boundaries and reduces false positives from movement outside the zone. This mode may miss motion at zone edges. Use it when you need strict boundary control and can accept reduced sensitivity at zone perimeters.
Balanced Mode
Balanced mode keeps detection within zone boundaries while still capturing most movement. It balances zone isolation and motion capture. Use it when you want reliable detection within zones without missing movement, while minimizing false positives from outside the zone.
Sensitive Mode
Sensitive mode captures all movement within zone boundaries and ensures no motion is missed at zone edges. This mode may detect motion outside the intended zone, causing false positives.
Custom Mode
Custom mode lets you manually fine-tune motion detection boundaries by adjusting how device pairs contribute to detection. This mode is ideal for when you need precise control for complex room layouts.
